Senator Lindsay Graham has become truly unhinged.
In multiple interviews on Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News since the start of the Iran war, Lindsay Graham has proven that he is not just a war hawk, he’s a crazy one.
He has gone on long rants to justify the US’s attack on Iran. He has stated that HE would offer Saudi Arabia a mutual defense agreement if they would back us in this war. He’s telling Trump to pull our bases from Spain because they are choosing to not have this war brought to their shores- a war we started where the opposition is bombing our allies who are not even engaged. What do you think they would do to a country they perceive as helping us?
Hannity allowed him to go on like this for 12 minutes- a lifetime in television news programming. He never once raised a question, never once pushed back or played devil’s advocate, never once interrupted.
The worst part is that Trump listens to Lindsay and is allowing him to help shape our policy. Why would he do so? Because Lindsay is a yes-man who is stroking Trump’s ego and telling him what he wants to hear.
Meanwhile, in all of his speechifying Lindsay never once acknowledged that WE bombed a school where 160 girls were killed. Oops. While Senator Kennedy publicly apologized, Trump redirected the blame to Iran and ol’ Lindsay acted as if it didn’t happen. Meanwhile, every indicator is that it was our bomb.
It’s further unnerved me that I have heard very little reporting on this major mistake in the execution of this war when I’ve listened to Fox News. When I did a Google search, there was not one single story from them about it. Meanwhile, Newsmax which is further right than Fox had multiple stories. When I searched the Fox News site, I found one report about the school bombing and it was about how Trump denied it was our fault. Is it because many within the administration were pilfered from the offices of Fox News, including the primary executor of this war in Pete Hegseth?
I used to like Sean Hannity many, many years ago but he has begun to believe his own hype. He props up this administration all the time. He might as well draw a paycheck from Trump because he’s a shill for this White House.
When I was in journalism class, I was taught that the media was the fourth estate, existing to hold those in power accountable. But when one of the leading voices in cable news never asks a confrontational question, how can we trust that his reporting is correct? He clearly sees events through his conservative lens and is unable to separate himself from his viewpoint to bring a challenge. He needs to show he has some backbone and bring truth to power, question everything. He’s a commentator and not a journalist so it’s fine to express his opinions but don’t do it at the sacrifice of integrity. Furthermore, I have been a Fox News watcher for decades but have begun to move away from it more, preferring independent media that isn’t beholding to anyone except the readers and viewers.
And back to Lindsay, he is not President, Secretary of Defense (I refuse to use Secretary of War because it’s not only outside of our values but stupid too), or Secretary of State. We have not elected him to rule. He has neither the power to make such promises to the world nor does he have the right to speak for the administration. He is Senator from the state of South Carolina and was elected to represent their interests. He has become drunk on power and I hope he finds himself out of power because when he makes Marjorie Taylor Greene look like the sane one, he’s lost the fight anyway.
And for those of us who seek the truth and common sense, I like this quote from Thomas Sowell, “If people in the media cannot decide whether they are in the business of reporting news or manufacturing propaganda, it is all the more important that the public understand that difference, and choose their news sources accordingly.”
