Just Add Water

We didn’t get the awesome snow in Snowmageddon 2026. We got ice! So we have been holed up at home for three days. Hopefully, we break free tomorrow.

But as I was mindlessly watching some inane program on the television, I heard a line that seems to be sticking with me.

The grass grows where you water it.

Think about that. The areas in your life that will thrive are those areas you cultivate. The areas in your life that are healthy are the ones that you water. The vast wastelands are where you have neglected to care for them.

So, what are you watering? Is your focus on your family and your friends? Is your focus on your work and providing for that family? Is your focus on your spiritual health and your physical and mental wellbeing. Are you watering every area of your life or is there one that has dried up?

I can get so busy with my obligations that I sometimes forget to just take time to breathe. I am often spending my time at home so tired that I forget to be present in the moment and just enjoy being a mom.

For the past three days, I’ve been forced to slow down and it has been absolutely glorious. I have cooked breakfast and dinner for myself and my kid. I have read a good book. I have watched mindless television. I have talked with friends and family. I didn’t get to go to church but I have still talked to God. I have focused on just being here and not on the list of obligations I have and the money in my bank account and the bills that need to be paid.

We can’t neglect our obligations but we have to balance those with cultivating those things which make our gardens green. It’s only through watering our grass that we remain healthy and beautiful.
